DIRECTORY

Homeowners insurance companies, listed plainly

Twenty major US homeowners insurers, described only with facts each company publishes about itself: the coverage it lists, the optional cover it names, who it serves, and how its policies are sold. Search by name or characteristic, filter by tag, and compare up to three companies side by side across every field we recorded. Then take the shortlist to the quote-comparison worksheet once you have real quotes.

Independent directory, no paid placements

We are not paid by any company listed here. There are no sponsored placements and no affiliate links. This directory is a free tool to help you compare your options. Companies are listed in alphabetical order by name, and payment does not affect that order, because no company pays us.

Short answer

This directory covers 20 US homeowners insurers. For each one it records, from the company official page named on its profile, the coverage it lists, the optional cover it names, who it serves, how its policies are sold, and a note on flood cover. Companies are listed in alphabetical order, and no prices are published.

How to use it in one line: filter the list to your situation, compare up to three companies side by side, then ask each company on your shortlist for a quote on one identical spec.

Start from your situation (each link presets the directory filter below):

Disclaimer: This directory records what companies say about their own products on the official pages cited, checked on the dates shown. It is not insurance advice, not a quote, and not a ranking. Coverage, eligibility and availability vary by state and by home. Confirm every detail with the company or a licensed agent before you buy.

Find companies that fit: answer 3 questions

Answer each question with one tap. This finder only narrows the list below. It never hides the directory: all 20 companies stay listed on this page whether you use the finder or not.

How the shortlist is produced: your answers filter the full list of 20 companies. A company has to match every answer that narrows the list, and answers that say no preference do not narrow it. When more than three companies match, the first three in directory order (alphabetical by name) are shown, and the count of all matches is stated. Ties keep directory order. Nothing is scored.

Question 1 of 3: Which of these describes your household?

Recorded in each profile under eligibility and tags.

Question 2 of 3: How do you want to buy the policy?

Recorded in each profile under how policies are sold and in its tags.

Question 3 of 3: Which optional cover matters most to you?

Recorded in each profile tags, from the optional cover the company itself lists.

0 of 3 questions answered.

How to use this directory

  1. Filter first. Use the tags and search to cut the list to companies that fit your situation, for example membership based, regional, high-value homes, or a company that lists water backup.
  2. Compare facts, not slogans. Select up to three companies and read every row of the comparison table, including eligibility and the flood note.
  3. Quote one identical spec. Hand each company on your shortlist the same dwelling coverage, deductible and endorsements. Our renewal shopping guide shows how to build that spec.
  4. Line the quotes up. Enter the quotes you personally obtained in the quote-comparison worksheet and check them with the coverage checklist before you renew or switch.

The comparison framework: same home, same spec, then price

A lower premium means little if the quote quietly carries a lower dwelling limit, a percentage wind deductible you did not choose, actual cash value settlement instead of replacement cost, or a missing water backup endorsement. So compare in this order: dwelling coverage first, deductible second, endorsements third, premium last. If two quotes match on the first three, the cheaper one is a genuine price difference. If they do not match, you are comparing different products, and the worksheet will make the mismatch visible.

Eligibility comes before all of that. One company in this directory is membership based, one is regional, and one positions itself for higher-value homes. A company that cannot insure your home or your household is not a cheaper option, it is not an option. The eligibility row in each profile states what the company itself says, so read it before you spend time quoting.

Common questions

How were these companies chosen?

They are major US homeowners insurers whose official sites describe a homeowners product we could read and verify. Inclusion is not a ranking and not a recommendation. Facts on each profile come from the company official page named on the profile, checked on the verified date shown.

Why are there no prices, ratings or rankings here?

Premiums depend on your home, address, claims history and the exact spec quoted, so a directory price would be invented. We do not publish ratings or declare any company best. Instead we record what each company itself lists, then give you a worksheet to compare real quotes you obtain on an identical spec.

How should I compare two companies?

Pick the companies that can actually insure your home, then request the same dwelling limit, the same deductibles, the same policy form and the same endorsements from each. Enter those quotes in the quote-comparison worksheet and read the coverage rows before the price row.

What order are companies listed in?

Alphabetical order by company name. Payment does not affect the order, because no company pays to be listed here.
